Vimutti is a Buddhist monastery, where monks live a communal life dedicated to meditation and study, in adherence to monastic traditions and training rules. Lay people who stay at the monastery, whether on a retreat or outside of a retreat, should expect that their lifestyle during their stay would follow the simple ways of the monastics, and they would need to observe rules of conduct.
Day visits
Lay supporters visit the monastery:
– to assist with looking after the property
– to offer lunch ‘dana’ to the Venerable monks
– for ‘Open Day’ when the lay community come together to offer and share lunch ‘dana’ and to spend time in reflection and meditation with the monks
– to receive teachings as well as guidance for meditation from the monks.
The daily schedule is provided below. All are welcome to participate in the morning puja/meditation and the evening puja/meditation. The monastery gate opens at 7:00am and shuts at 7:30pm daily. If you plan to join the morning puja, contact the monastery in advance to arrange for the gate to be unlocked.
Overnight stay
From time to time, Vimutti receives requests from supporters and interested individuals to stay at the kutis (meditation huts) on the property for the purpose of spending time developing their Buddha-Dhamma practice. You are welcome to request to stay at Vimutti Buddhist Monastery.
Vimutti would usually approve requests from first-timers only where they apply to stay for one week. Space is limited, so please apply as much in advance as you can. Ensure that you carefully read through the Staying at Vimutti information before you apply.
